The race has officially started for the seat of Hinkler following the resignation of long-time MP Keith Pitt.
Mr Pitt held the seat for the Coalition since 2013.
Labor has failed to win the electorate back after losing the seat at the 1993 election.
The party has selected Trish Mears, the Bundaberg region’s 2023 citizen of the year.
Ms Mears is involved in a number of community organisations including Partners in Care Together, Moore Park Beach Arts Inc. and Bundaberg Players Incorporated.
The LNP has endorsed David Batt who was the State Member for Bundaberg between 2017 and 2020.
Mr Batt is also well known in the community for his work as a police officer and within Council as a former councillor and Deputy Mayor. He is currently the Community Resilience and Disaster Management Coordinator.
