A 29-year-old man has died in hospital following a large crash between Gin Gin and Miriam Vale on Tuesday, August 27.

Six trucks were involved as were two ambulances that were responding to the accident on the Bruce Highway. It’s believed heavy fog and smoke in the area were contributing factors.

Initial investigations indicate that at approximately 1.50am on August 27, a truck crashed near Granite Creek Forestry Road. A heavy vehicle travelling in the opposite direction slowed to assist with that crash and was struck from behind by a number of trucks.

The driver of the first truck that collided with the assisting heavy vehicle from behind sustained critical injuries.

He was initially transported to the Gladstone Base Hospital in a critical condition before being flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he died Wednesday night from his injuries.

The Rockhampton Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
