Construction has started on $540,000 road safety and access improvements at the Burnett Youth Learning Centre on Goodwood Road at Elliott.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says it was aware of a community desire to improve safety at this location and has been working with the Burnett Youth Learning Centre to identify concerns and preferred upgrade solutions.

The works include pavement widening and resurfacing works, with the installation of left and right-turn lanes at the access, to separate through and turning traffic.

Construction will be undertaken during the day with traffic control measures including single lane closures, stop/go traffic control and reduced speed limits. Work will be programmed to ensure any traffic delays are kept to a minimum.

Regional Director TMR Southern Queensland Region Bill Landsbury is thanking road users for their patience while the work is underway.

“Once community concerns with safety along this stretch of Goodwood Road were identified, TMR began corresponding with the Burnett Youth Learning Centre to identify safety improvement opportunities,” he says.

“The $540,000 works are funded under the Queensland Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP), which provides funding to improve the safety and operation of schools through new or improved infrastructure at the school and surrounding network.

“This funding will go a long way towards providing safe conditions for road users along this stretch, particularly for the staff and students of the Burnett Youth Learning Centre.”
