Possibly one of Hazzard Gallery’s most diverse solo exhibitions opens Friday night.

Well known local dressmaker Annette Blair has put her sewing skills to use again.

Hundreds of residents were married wearing one of her gowns or went to proms, confirmations and important events in one of her original designs.

But this time she is stepping away from garments.

Covid restrictions allowed Annette the time to pivot in new directions and to return to her art practice, something she had not done since high school.

She went through a refresher course to aid in her developing her drawing skills, utilising the use of graphite and pastel from the Queensland School Of Fine Art.

This is Annette’s first foray into a solo exhibition and the work being presented is a representation of the range of her skill and ability, demonstrating the depth of skill and talent that Bundaberg has to offer.

Annette favours native flora and fauna as her subjects and has been recognised for its delicacy.

Wendy Francis, a long time friend of Annette and member of the Bundaberg Art Society, says Annette has received international recognition for her thread painting.

“Imagine the talent required to paint a picture with a sewing machine,” she says.

“Annette prepares the various backing by hand dying, she then “paints” her work with her sewing machine.

“Annette is donating a raffle prize one of her thread paintings of a Bee-Eater, as always, the quality of this work shines and the fact that the raffle tickets are only $1.00 belies that quality.
