Hundreds of residents in Yandaran, Bucca, Kalkie and Woongarra are without power on Thursday morning thanks to a fierce storm that hit the region just after midnight.
The heavy thunder and lightning lasted about an hour and a half with the Weather Bureau recording wind gusts of 60km/h.
The heaviest falls were recorded at Bucca, around 60mm, while Bargara had close to 45mm.
Those affected by the power outage are hoping the electricity is back on soon as heatwave conditions grip the area.
Meteorologist Patch Clapp says we’re in for a scorcher.
“We’re looking at that top of 37 for Bundaberg today,” he says.
“Maryborough as well seeing that top of 37.
“Places that aren’t right on the coast really feeling the heat. Gympie 38 today and Gayndah 39.”
Officer in Charge at Bundaberg Ambulance Station Sean Quarmby says paramedics get more call outs during extreme heat.
“So what we’re encouraging people to do is to stay in environments where they are cool with air conditioning or good ventilation, ensuring they are maintaining adequate hydration with water and if you do need to go outside just making sure you’re protecting yourself,” he says.
