How Burnett residents voted

Stephen Bennett is back in for this fifth term as the Member for Burnett.

As of Monday he leads by more than 8,800 votes retaining the safe LNP seat.

He says he’s looking forward to an LNP led government after so many years in opposition.

“For many years I got blocked from so much information from [Government] Departments, from other agencies and I’m looking forward to being able to really embed myself in the process of transparency and delivery for things like the actual business case for the Paradise Dam, the actual policy position of the new hospital,” he says.

“Everything we’ve announced has been fully costed, fully researched and there’s a strong policy position that’s been developed over a long period of time.

“We’ve engaged with stakeholders already, we’ve made promises for the first 100 days in government. Keeping community safe laws will be in place by Christmas.

“It’s down to a very, very ambitious program that we set early.

“Our leadership team has been relentless their energy is absolutely inspiring and I guess going forward it is that people have seen after 10 years of what State Labor has been doing it was time for a fresh start.”

Votes are still being counted in the Bundaberg electorate.

Labor’s Tom Smith won by just nine votes in 2020.

As of Monday morning he’s ahead of the LNP’s Bree Watson by more than 800 votes with 80 per cent of the count complete.
